Chaturon Chaisang speaks against Deaclaring State of Emergency of Thai gov.

Today several folks from foreign media called me to ask about my position on the government's declaring state of emergency. I would like to summarize my comments here for those who might be interested. I don't think the government has any reason to declare the state of emergency because the people who are protesting no...w adhere to non violence means,carrying no weapons.

Declaring state of emergency will lead to deployment of military measures against people carrying no weapons,while allowing officially especially military to arbitrarily use violence against people without any legal accountability whatsoever. That will make the situation very vulnerable,with high risk of resulting in violence or even bloodshed.

The best solution now is to revoke the declaration of state of emrgency immediately and then restart the negotiation. Make sure that the government will not suppress people. I would like to ask international media at the sites to observe the development of the situation closely and report to internationally community all the facts.

That will help protect Thai people from being suppressed brutally.

The key conditions to people safety now are 1.sufficiently large number of people at the sites,2.adhering to peaceful means, 3.being careful of third party interference and 4.getting help from media especially international media in reporting what happens to the world.
